On December 16, 2025, Chinese Embassy in Antigua and Barbuda hosted a reception upon the assumption of duty for H.E. Jiang Wei, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Antigua and Barbuda. H.E. Sir Rodney Williams, Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda and Foreign Minister the Hon. E.P. Chet Greene attended the event and delivered remarks. Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle, Minister of Tourism the Hon. Charles Fernandez, Minister of Education the Hon. Daryll Matthew, Minister of Urban and Social Transformation the Hon. Rawdon Turner, along with more than 100 guests from all sectors of society, including senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of Chinese enterprises, as well as overseas Chinese in Antigua and Barbuda were present at the reception.
Ambassador Jiang addressed that Antigua and Barbuda is a good friend and good partner of China in the Caribbean region. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, China-Antigua and Barbuda relations have been developed substantially, with fruitful outcomes in cooperation across all sectors. The Recommendations of the CPC Central Committee for Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development and the recently released China’s Policy Paper on Latin America and the Caribbean will provide broader opportunities for the future development of China-Antigua and Barbuda relations. And she looked forward to working with the government and all sectors of society in Antigua and Barbuda to carry forward traditional friendship, consolidate political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, deliver more outcomes for China-Antigua and Barbuda relations, and bring greater benefits to the two peoples.
Sir Rodney Williams welcomed Ambassador Jiang and stated that Antigua and Barbuda and the People’s Republic of China share a relationship built on mutual respect, friendship, and cooperation. Over the years, this partnership has matured and deepened, delivering tangible benefits to people across a wide range of sectors, including infrastructure development, education, health, cultural exchange, and capacity building. Antigua and Barbuda is a welcoming nation and a committed partner. He looked forward to working closely with Ambassador Jiang to further strengthen bilateral relations, deepen cooperation, and explore new opportunities that advance shared goals of sustainable development, resilience, and mutual prosperity.
Minister Greene conveyed greetings from Prime Minister the Hon. Gaston Browne to Ambassador Jiang and noted that China has been the leading development partner, with achievements in pragmatic cooperation across all sectors of economic and social development. He reaffirmed Antigua and Barbuda’s unwavering commitment to the One-China principle grounded in respect for territorial sovereignty and international norms and commitment to working closely with Ambassador Jiang to deepen bilateral relations, expand trade, foster cultural exchanges, and advance shared development goals.
The guests extended warm congratulations to Ambassador Jiang on her assumption of duty, engaged in extensive exchanges on advancing pragmatic cooperation between China and Antigua and Barbuda in fields like infrastructure, agriculture, education and tourism, and exchanged New Year greetings.
