On the morning of August 24, 2023 local time, President met with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg.
Xi Jinping noted that President Hassan's successful visit to China last November was a highlight moment in China-Tanzania relations, and the various common understandings reached between the two sides are being actively and effectively implemented. China-Tanzania cooperation has always been at the forefront of China-Africa cooperation, and the Tanzania-Zambia Railway is a beautiful memory shared by the people of the two countries. Noting that next year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Tanzania, Xi Jinping said that China is ready to take the opportunity of jointly celebrating the 60th anniversary to continuously work with Tanzania in supporting each other's core interests and major concerns and deepening strategic cooperation. Under the current international situation, strengthening China-Africa cooperation is conducive to safeguarding the unity and legitimate development interests of developing countries.
Hassan said that she was glad that she paid a successful visit to China last year and announced the elevation of bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with President Xi Jinping. She noted that Tanzania and China have maintained close exchanges at all levels and made smooth progress in cooperation projects. Tanzania highly appreciates China's valuable support and assistance for the development of developing countries. Tanzania and other developing countries have benefited enormously from the Belt and Road Initiative and other major initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping. Tanzania looks forward to working with China to jointly celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year and further elevate the development of Tanzania-China relations.
