The “Books on China” collection launched in the National Public Library of Antigua and Barbuda

On May 16,the “Books on China” collection was launchedfor use in theNational Public Library of Antigua and Barbuda on the first day of the “Library Week”, and the Chinese Embassy in Antigua and Barbuda donated a variety of books on China to the library.

H.E. Mme Zhang Yanling, Chinese Ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda and Mrs. Ryllis Mannix, Director of the Library attended the launching ceremony.  

Ambassador Zhang expressed that although China and Antigua and Barbuda are geographically far apart, the channel of connection could be built between the two peoples by books. The collection includes classics of Confucius and Mencius, literature masterpieces, general knowledge of China, fables and city albums and etc. It is hoped that these books would help local people discover and get to know the history, culture and people’s daily life in China.

Mrs.Mannix thanked the Chinese Embassy for the donation and noted that the “Books on China”collection will not only further enrich the Library’s non-fiction collection but also help local community see the outside world and know more about China. It will particularly enable the students access the Chinese culture, arouse their interest in learning Chinese, and play a positive role in the growth of the younger generation.
