Notice on Updated Information for X1 Visa to China

From now on, long-term overseas students who are going to China for academic education can apply for X1 visa to the Chinese Embassy in Antigua and Barbuda. Visa applications from short-term overseas students for non-academic education (X2 visa) are not acceptable at the moment.

1. Required documents:

(1) Original passport with at least six months of remaining validity and blank visa pages, and a copy of the passport's bio-data page;

(2) Completedvisa application formand the confirmation page (please see 2. How to applyfor details);

(3) One recently-taken color passport photo (bare-head, full face) against a light background, in 48mm x 33mm size;

(4) The "Visa Application for Study in China" (JW201/202 Form), school admission notice (freshmen) or return certificate (senior students)offered by the universities.

(5) The original Chinese passport and a photocopy of the passport's information/photo page, and extension page (if applicable)are required for first-time applicants whose former nationality was Chinese, or who were born in China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan).

(6) If the name in the new passport is different from that in the original one, the official document issued by authorities for name change is required.

(7) Foreign citizens who were born in China and had obtained a Chinese visa before, when applying for visa with a new passport, shall submit a copy of the original passport's information/photo page and the page containing the previous Chinese visa.

2. How to apply:

(1) Complete the online visa application(https://cova.mfa.gov.cn), download, print and sign the application form and the confirmation page.

(2) Send anemail, attached with all the photos/copies of the required documents, to chinaemb_ag@mfa.gov.cn for a preview.

(3) Schedule an appointment online at Appointment for Visa Application Submission (AVAS) (https://avas.mfa.gov.cn) after the preview is approved.

(4) Come to the embassy to submit all the documents at the appointed time.

3. Additional Information:

(1) Except for people who cannot be vaccinated due to illness or other reasons, applicants are required to present verifiable documentation of full vaccination of COVID-19 vaccines approved for emergency use or licensed for use by China or WHO while applying for a visa. Please take necessary protective measures during application and trans-border travels.

(2) Generally, a visa can be obtained on the fourth business day, but the time for supplementary materials, verification, force majeure .etc is not included.

(3) Any incomplete, misleading or false statement in the application documents may result in the delay or even the refusal of the visa.

(4) Families of the student studying in China can apply to live with or visit the student in China, providing the students invitation letter, original certification showing the family relationship, and the photo/copy of the student's passport andstudyresidence permit.
